Myofascial Release is a hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure for 3-5 minutes into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore range of motion. Fascia, which is 20% elastic and 80% collagenous, covers the human body in one continuous sheet, providing support and protection to muscles, bones, ligaments, nerves, arteries and veins as well as to all internal organs. In a normal, healthy state, fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration and can stretch and move without restriction. When we experience a physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia loses pliability and creates stiffness, tension, and pain in the body. Myofascial Release is an incredible form of bodywork and creates both short-term and long-term health benefits.
As with most forms of therapeutic bodywork, any number of sensations or responses are possible. Here is what some clients receiving Myofascial Release have said:
"I like the patient waiting involved with this work. It is hard to truly slow down, to tune deeply inward to my body in a city that promotes continuous movement and external achievement. My Myofascial Release session gave me a deeper sensation of rest and relaxation."
"This work has brought to my attention how deeply tense I am. I need to listen to my body's cues that I am maxed out and find ways to reduce stress in my life."
"After my Myofascial Release session, I felt energized!"
"I feel taller, longer, and more open since my session."
"I'm in much less pain that I was before receiving this work."
"The intra-oral myofascial work has decreased tightness in my jaw, face, and neck. I feel expansive and lighter!"
